This public dataset provides population projections which are estimates of the population for the future. They are typically based on an estimated population consistent with the most recent decennial census and are produced using the cohort-component method.
These estimates are producted several times a decade (this data from 2017) and update asumptions about fertility, mortality, and migration.
Note that the U.S. Census Bureau does not have a current set of state population estimates, please use the state level data on the source's web page.
