MinIO is a high performance, Kubenetes native object storage suite. With an extensive list of enterprise features, it is scalable, secure and resilient while remaining remarkably simple to deploy and operate at scale. Software-defined, MinIO can run on any hardware and in any cloud - public, private or edge. MinIO is the world’s fastest object storage and can run the broadest set of workloads in the industry. It is widely considered to be the leader in compatibility with Amazon’s S3 API.

Performance

With its focus on high performance, MinIO enables enterprises to support multiple use cases with the same platform. For example, MinIO’s performance characteristics mean that you can run multiple Spark, Presto, and Hive queries, or to quickly test, train and deploy AI algorithms, without suffering a storage bottleneck. MinIO object storage is used as the primary storage for cloud native applications that require higher throughput and lower latency than traditional object storage can provide.

Kubernetes Native

MinIO was born into the cloud. Containerization and orchestration is our customer base’s default implementation. Our focus on the cloud native way has resulted in an exceptionally clean Kubernetes implementation. As a result, MinIO can be found on every Kubernetes distribution from the public cloud to the private cloud.

Scalability

MinIO employs the same techniques as the hyper-scalers using simplicity as a building block. By consuming resources in small, discrete chunks, MinIO customers additional instances and can pack them densely - up to exabyte scale. Cloud-native applications start small at the prototyping phase, but often grow to multiple racks and sometimes to multiple data centers spread across geographies. MinIO is designed to scale seamlessly alongside the application’s demands.

Multi-tenancy

MinIO is designed for the multi-tenancy world of Kubernetes. With MinIO, tenants are fully isolated from each other with their own instances of MinIO clusters. Each tenant in turn may have multiple users with varying levels of access privileges. Each tenant cluster operates independently of each other and due to the size of the MinIO binary (~60mb) can be densely packed for efficiency. Standard HTTP load balancers or round-robin DNS may be employed.

Security

MinIO encrypts data when stored on disk and when transmitted over the network. MinIO’s state-of-the-art encryption schemes support granular object-level encryption using modern, industry-standard encryption algorithms, such as AES-256-GCM, ChaCha20-Poly1305, and AES-CBC. MinIO is fully compatible with S3 encryption semantics, and also extends S3 by including support for non-AWS key management services such as Hashicorp Vault, Gemalto KeySecure, and Google Secrets Manager.

    "Great for building apps with object-storage backing services"

    What do you like best?

    I love that Minio works as advertised out of the box, and the Docker image integrates well into our dev and testing environments to help us build object-storage based applications.

    What do you dislike?

    There was some difficulty initially getting Minio to work in both bucket-CNAME and path-to-bucket configurations, but this is now relatively easy to set up.

    What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

    Object storage is often consumed as a service from a cloud provider but AWS and Google, to name two, don't provide mocked verisons that you can test with, locally. Minio helps mock these backends for development, but you could also deploy it to your own environment to run as-is.

    "Great alternative for S3 in the pocket"

    What do you like best?

    The capabilities, portability, compliance with S3 and easy set up.

    What do you dislike?

    Not sure, it was used for SDLC purpose only.

    To support SDLC like simple storage of artifacts in distributed fashion with S3 compliancy.

    "Minio usage"

    What do you like best?

    The easy way to retrieve documents using the API

    Adding a large number of files in the same bucket can cause performance issues

    "Cost effective distributed cloud storage product."

    What do you like best?

    Minio is easy to use and can be easily configured with any Machine Learning model. Some features like UI, OIDC integration, KES encryption are excellent. The developers can also use it with the docker containers. The best part is its flexibility to be integrated with different applications.

    What do you dislike?

    Probably there should be more ease to reach out to the support team. Can introduce a chatbox kind of instant support.

    What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

    Its compatibility with Amazon S3 and Microsoft Azure provides makes it more desirable for large organizations. This is easy to configure, install and needs less effort for administration. We have used Minio for some time now, and i must say it has improved the business process outcomes along with compliance & risk management.

    "MinIO- Cloud Storage compatible with Amazon S3"

    What do you like best?

    MinIO is an open-source tool under Apache 2.0. It can be easily integrated with multiple tools like Amazon S3, Gitea, Gravity , Civo, TileDB. It is very simple and scalable tool. Ease of management and administration is most valuable and important.

    What do you dislike?

    The monitoring thing really needs to be improved. It doesn't support the increase in size after the deployment. It should have better multi-tenancy support.

    What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

    We used it for machine learning models and used the latest open-source version. We wanted to move to AWS, and it provided a bridge. We could write code once and make it work with MinIO.
