The Top 5 Reasons to Sell on Red Hat Marketplace

by Kelly Hartman

VP of Ecosystem and Business Development for Red Hat Marketplace

Across my career, software partners seemingly all have the same question when we begin working together: “How quickly can we start landing new customers together and driving joint value?” That question is front of mind as I lead business development for Red Hat Marketplace. That’s why we’ve built such a strong business case for selling on Red Hat Marketplace. In this post, I’ll walk through what I see as five key reasons selling on Red Hat Marketplace is a unique opportunity for software providers:

  1. The growing popularity of containers and Kubernetes
  2. Direct access to OpenShift users and developers
  3. A compelling story to share with Red Hat and IBM’s broad and deep customer bases
  4. Prioritization of quality offerings and enterprise support
  5. A focus on building a best-in-class marketplace partner program to provide technical, marketing, and business benefits based on partner feedback

Let’s expand on each of these points.

Containers and Kubernetes: the future of cloud-native application delivery

Containers and Kubernetes are quickly becoming the technological foundation for cloud-native app delivery.

Why? Because companies are only competitive when they can rapidly innovate and release their applications. Containers and Kubernetes support scalability and workload portability, and balance speed with stability. Our customers’ success show containers are crucial to a winning application modernization strategy, and Kubernetes is crucial to a successful application modernization strategy at the scale enterprises need. 451 Research estimates the application container software market should grow to more than \$5.5 billion by 2023 with a compound annual growth rate of 28 percent.

The OpenShift market opportunity

OpenShift represents a massive opportunity for software providers to take advantage of as its value in the hybrid and multicloud market continues to grow. Red Hat Marketplace opens the door to direct commerce with access to more than a quickly growing population of OpenShift developers and users. Through Red Hat Marketplace, OpenShift users can easily buy software once, and deploy it to any OpenShift cluster running in any environment.

Red Hat® OpenShift® is supported Kubernetes for cloud-native applications with enterprise security. OpenShift is focused on security at every level of the container stack and throughout the application lifecycle. It includes long-term, enterprise support from one of the leading Kubernetes contributors and open source software companies. And OpenShift is designed to make developers’ lives easier, empowering developers to deploy apps on Kubernetes without needing to learn Kubernetes. It’s no surprise that more and more developers and companies are taking advantage of Red Hat OpenShift for automated installation, upgrades, and lifecycle management throughout the container stack—the operating system, Kubernetes and cluster services, and applications.

Increase visibility to IBM and Red Hat’s broad and deep enterprise base

In recent conversations with leaders of Fortune 500 enterprises, many told us that half of their software was upstream open source projects. These projects can require a great level of effort to manage in-house. We wanted to make our enterprise customers’ lives easier, and we saw Red Hat Marketplace as an opportunity to connect customers to software vendors who support these projects—not to mention all of the other market-leading vendor alternatives.

Building a marketplace to work with you and for you

Finally, we’ve built a marketplace that works for you. Built to provide technical, marketing, and business benefits that our early adopter ISVs have asked for, Red Hat Marketplace prioritizes the ISV experience, from simplifying billing and support to offering robust go-to-market and technical resources.
